Meet the Board
Greetings Tiger Families,
It is an honor to welcome new and returning families to School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens. The year 2020 has brought a lot of unexpected events and I hope that you and your family have found safe and creative ways to endure these uncertain times. Gratefully, the one thing that has remained constant is the dedication to the school community by the administration, faculty and staff, the HSA- Home and School Association, and LSAT-Local School Advisory Team.
Through fundraising and grants, the HSA supports SWWFS throughout the year. For SY 2019-20, we sponsored programs such as FoodPrints and the Kennedy Center Partnership. We purchased necessary technology for classrooms, and provided funds for teachers. In addition, the HSA supported major assemblies and celebrated teachers and students. Furthermore, we partnered with the Mental Health Team to assist families who were greatly impacted financially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Lastly, we responded to the district’s call to recognize and reverse racist policies in education by purchasing “How to be an Antiracist” by Ibram X. Kendi and “Me and White Supremacy” by Layla F. Saad for the SWWFS administration, faculty, staff and parent board members.
The HSA needs you to get involved! The Home School Association is a group of parents, faculty and community members who promote and support SWWFS through fundraising, programming, and partnerships. Together, our families AND faculty make this school a success. You are vital in making sure the needs of the school community are met.
Everyone is a part of the HSA! One way to support the school is to make a tax-deductible donation. No amount is too small. Please review the Back-to-School Giving Campaign that accompanies this letter. Feel free to share with those outside of our school community.
At this time, all of the HSA General Body meetings will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams on the following Saturdays at 10am*:
9/26, 10/24, 1/23, 2/27, 3/27, 4/24 and 5/22
All families will receive HSA emails through Mailchimp. Contact information is based on what was provided to the registrar. Please contact if you would like to update or add another email address to the school’s distribution list. I also encourage you to stay connected through the school’s website www.swwfs.org.
Last, but not least, the parent and teacher members of the LSAT welcome all of the returning and new families. The work of LSAT is primarily focused on the school’s budget and on the school building. The growth in our enrollment has required the temporary installation of six new modular classrooms on the west side grassy area. A major modernization of our building is coming in just a few years. It will enable us to better manage our future growth. Your input is welcome during the upcoming planning process. You are also welcome to attend the monthly LSAT meetings.
The School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens HSA and LSAT are looking forward to your involvement this year.
Carmen Jenkins Frazier, HSA President
