SWWFS Community Message

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Hello SWWFS Community:

We are proud of our community’s diversity; we work as partners with parents to nurture the social-emotional and academic success of our students. Today a metal detector was installed at the main entrance. This is a result of an incident where a student brought a taser into our school. One of our students, an upstander, reported the taser to us. The student was disciplined according to the DCPS Chapter 25 disciplinary guide. The student’s parent, DCPS security and MPD were directly involved and handled the situation in a very effective and professional way.

However, we now have a metal detector as a result. Mr. Trogisch has been allowed to modify the manner in which students enter our building, to prevent ECE and elementary students from passing through the metal detector when entering school. Effective Friday, May 17, 2019, ECE and elementary students will enter through the entrance next to the cafeteria.

We have requested that the metal detector be removed, as its presence is contrary to our positive philosophy of trusting students and parents to feel and be welcomed when entering our school. We will keep the community updated on our request.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to contact Mr. Trogisch at: Richard.Trogisch@dc.gov.
